Individual tutoring

Reading 

Bayhill uses the best research-based approaches to build strong foundational reading skills in phonological awareness, decoding, spelling, sight word recognition, and fluency. For students who have struggled to read fluently or who have been diagnosed with dyslexia, we provide individual tutoring 2-3 times a week for about a year to see several years of growth. 

Writing

Writing takes the majority of our cognitive skills - organizing, ideating, the mechanics of writing, spelling, etc. It's a whole-brain activity and one of the hardest for the majority of students. 

We take a structured and systematic approach to teaching students to write from the single sentence to paragraphs and essays. The approach we use was specifically designed to help students who have struggled with written expression.

We use Writing Revolution ® and Bayhill School's unique approach to writing that we've developed over our many years working with students who have struggled. This systematic and highly visual approach builds in the necessary executive functioning skills and scaffolding necessary for successful essay writing.

Executive Functioning

Executive functioning includes mental tasks such as goal setting, cognitive flexibility, organizing and prioritizing, memorizing, self-checking and monitoring. We help students learn first HOW to learn, and then apply those tools to their specific academic challenges. We use researched instructional strategies and tools to systematically build a student’s executive functioning and apply it to their academic life and personal goals.

In addition to skill building, we can also help students in school content areas such as math, English language arts, science, and history. Our approach builds not just knowledge, but study skills and strategies they can use in the future.
