Support Services
Every Bayhill student benefits from support built into the school day, including small classes, embedded accommodations, and individualized instruction. Some students benefit from additional academic, therapeutic, or skill-building support based on their individual learning profiles.
Bayhill offers a range of support services designed to meet students where they are and help them build the skills, strategies, and independence they need to move forward.
Speech and Language Therapy may address:
- Social Pragmatics
- Articulation
- Receptive & Expressive language
Educational Therapy may address:
- Decoding and reading fluency
- Reading comprehension
- Writing
- Assistive technology
- Executive functioning
Counseling with licensed MFTs may address:
- Anxiety and depression
- Empathy, judgment, and perspective-taking
- Mindfulness
- Anger management
- Social problem-solving
- Relationship-building
These individualized services are available at an additional cost. Rates vary by service.
Embedded Accommodations
Accommodations are naturally embedded throughout the Bayhill school day. Teachers use strategies such as scaffolding, repetition and rephrasing, additional processing time, graphic organizers, and predictable classroom structures to make learning more accessible.
Students may also use accommodations such as teacher-provided notes, extended time, a separate testing space, or a reader based on their individual needs.
Just as importantly, students learn to understand which accommodations work for them and how to ask for what they need. Building these self-advocacy skills prepares students to take greater ownership of their learning at Bayhill, in college, and in the workplace.
Support Classes
Bayhill offers support classes during the school day to strengthen foundational academic and executive functioning skills. These classes are designed around students' ages and individual areas of need.
Structured Literacy is offered to students in grades 7-9 who need targeted instruction to strengthen foundational reading skills. Rooted in an Orton-Gillingham-based approach, the class addresses phonemic awareness, decoding, spelling, fluency, and comprehension.
Teachers draw from approaches including Seeing Stars, Visualizing and Verbalizing, and Structured Word Inquiry to tailor instruction to individual student needs. This daily class combines small-group and individualized instruction to help students strengthen their literacy skills.
Focused Skill Building provides students in grades 7 and 8 with individualized instruction based on their particular learning needs. Using assessment data and parent input, teachers develop a plan that may address vocabulary, comprehension, writing, math, cognitive processing, study skills, and executive functioning.
Math Intervention is offered to students in grades 7 and 8 who need additional support developing foundational math skills. Instruction focused on building number sense and mathematical understanding before moving into increasingly complex problem-solving and preparation for high school algebra.
Strategies for Success provides students in grades 10-12 with a dedicated period to strengthen planning, prioritization, organization, and time management skills while receiving support with their academic work.
As students progress through high school, the emphasis is on developing systems they can increasingly manage on their own.
