Bayhill's support program includes embedded accommodations, support classes, and additional services. Our goal is to tailor a program that fits the needs of each individual student.

Embedded Accommodations

Every class embeds scaffolding, repeating and rephrasing, extra time to process, graphic organizers, and predictable structures. Other accommodations are very common among students, yet we work on building self-advocacy skills to request accommodations through prompted guidance. We know students will need good self-advocacy skills in college and the workplace so we teach them how to request accommodations such as having notes provided, and requesting a separate space or reader to take a test. We want students to to know themselves as learners and that includes knowing what they need to learn best and to demonstrate their knowledge.

Support Classes

Support classes are offered for credit to build reading and executive functioning, or as a space to complete homework with support.

Structured Literacy - Our Structured Literacy class is offered to students in grades 7-9 who need additional remediation to build foundational skills in phonemic awareness, decoding, spelling, fluency, and comprehension. Rooted in the Orton Gillingham approach and using a vast tool bag that includes Seeing Stars, Visualizing and Verbalizing, and Structured Word Inquiry, we tailor supports to meet the needs of individual students. This daily class combines small group and 1:1 instruction to help student move toward grade level literacy.

Focused Skill Building - For 7th and 8th grade students Focused Skill Building time personalizes instruction to build skills in vocabulary, comprehension, writing, math, cognitive processing, study skills, and executive functioning. Using a series of assessments and parent input, we create an individualized plan for each student.

Math Intervention - Offered to students in grades 7-8 and using a proven math remediation approach and elements of Wooding Math taught at the Landmark School, we focus on building a strong foundation of numeracy that some students lack. Once that foundation is established we build problem solving skills that ready students for high school algebra.

Strategies for Success - For students in grades 10-12, Strategies for Success provides a period each day for students to build skills in planning, prioritizing and time management while gaining time and support to complete homework.
